Photo by faithruckus. The District might be getting a brief break from the insanely oppressive heat today — but Pepco is warning customers that they’re not out of the woods yet when it comes to those pesky rolling power outages. The utility “remains on alert” for “a significant increase in thunderstorm activity” which is in the forecast.
“While the power supply in the region remains sufficient to meet the demand, the continued intense heat can stress electric system equipment,” the utility said in a statement released this morning, reminding customers that “damage caused by high winds, saturated soil, and falling trees and tree limbs” is probably going to cause some problems over the next few days.
If you’re a Pepco customer and your power goes out, you should call 1-877-PEPCO-62 (1-877-737-2662) and press one — if there are downed wires, press two. Pepco also is telling customers to request a call back when they report outages so that they utility can keep you up to date on progress. If you’ve still got an internet connection, you can also access Pepco’s outage map here.
