Originally, the District’s Department of Motor Vehiclescurrently offering amnesty from late fees to those with long-outstanding tickets — was going to stop honoring requests from residents curious about whether they had tickets that would qualify for amnesty today. But the agency has announced that, given the success of the program so far, they’ll extend the free research service through September 9.

During its first two weeks, the ticket amnesty program has net $393,647 in revenue from 7,400 previously unpaid tickets. The program will run through January 27, 2012 — it is estimated that the amnesty will bring in $6.3 million to the city coffers.

If you think you might have an old ticket, but aren’t sure, you can request a list of amnesty-eligible tickets from the DMV by filling out this form. The DMV says they are processing 118 such requests per day, on average, and that it usually takes about five days to return results to drivers.
