Beta city-blog SocialStudiesDC — having already offered up dramatic readings of Missed Connections — has hit another home run with this map, which attempts to organize the District through various stereotypes.

Obviously, the map is presented with tongue firmly planted in cheek. But one has to admit that descriptors like “Let Teddy Win!,” “Commie Dog Walkers” and “Non-Profits and Acronyms” are pretty solid. (Of course, I’m sure there is someone out there taking offense to the descriptors of Columbia Heights and H Street NE.)

SocialStudiesDC is hardly the first to offer up this kind of visualization — a recent City Paper neighborhood guide used a variation on this classic New Yorker cover to organize its coverage, and smack talk from Champlain Street has been laid down. (We’d argue that the maps are aiming for two different reactions, but hey, there’s nothing wrong with a little healthy competition.)
