Heading to National or Dulles by car today? You’ll want to add in some extra time to get there — a large motorcycle procession will block several major Virginia roads Friday afternoon.

Riders will be part of a 15-mile-convoy, stretching from Hagerstown to the Pentagon. Authorities note that more than 1,800 bikes are scheduled to begin their ride at 1 p.m., and that it will affect access tog Interstate 70, U.S. Route 15, the Dulles Greenway, the Dulles Toll Road, Interstate 66, and Route 110. (We’ve embedded a map created by the Virginia State Police, outlining the route and road closures.) The ride is expected to last for most of the afternoon.

While we’re on the subject of September 11 remembrances: yesterday, Mayor Vince Gray announced the District’s plans to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the attacks, including a tribute on the anniversary inside Freedom Plaza, an event where children will toss white roses into the Potomac River and a candlelight vigil at First Baptist Church of the City.
