Hey, where’s the Washington Monument? Photo by jamietre.

The District is hungry for revenue. Film and television producers have money. Logically, it only makes sense for the city’s brass to try and court them to film here — which would explain why Mayor Vince Gray is taking some time out of his busy desk work schedule this afternoon to visit the set of Covert Affairs, a drama set in Washington about a field officer in the fictional “Domestic Protection Division” of the government.

The show has been filming all over town this week — a very good thing, considering that the pilot episode of the series contained the several heinous crimes against local geography, like insinuating that the U.S. Capitol was a mere 200 yards behind the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (actually located at 1910 Massachusetts Avenue SE near RFK Stadium), or that you can see the Washington Monument from outside the terminal at Dulles International Airport.

Now, we’re used to television and film productions taking their liberties with local geography — like when anyone on 24 could get anywhere using Metro in the span of five minutes, or how Angelina Jolie was apparently accessing transportation pods in Salt — but maybe the Mayor could offer the producers of Covert Affairs a few geography tips while he’s on the set, hitting them up for cash.
