Good morning, Washington. Today is going to be hot, sticky and summer-like — and it may be the last day of its kind for the year as we gear up for cooler weather (the morning meteorologists project that persistent 90 degree days have expired for the season). Showers are possible, but the threat of storms really increases tonight and tomorrow. We’re also in line for copious amounts of rain this week as what’s left of Tropical Storm Lee heads toward the Washington area. When you see the sun today, enjoy it.

>> The godfather of go-go music is in D.C. this weekend. Chuck Brown is joining the National Symphony Orchestra for its annual Labor Day concert on the Capitol lawn at 8:00 p.m. tonight.

>> Orlando Hernandez, 48, of Hyattsville, was electrocuted to death in Montgomery County Saturday morning. Hernandez, a day laborer, was hired by homeowners to trim a tree located on their property, but when he tried to take down his ladder, a part of it made contact with a power line. Hernandez was electrocuted and engulfed in flames.

>> The federal government granted Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell’s request for federal disaster assistance to help 22 local governments pay for $39 million in storm-related costs and damage from Hurricane Irene.

>> David Silverberg, editor of Homeland Security Today magazine, questions in a Washington Post op-ed who in D.C. has the authority to order an evacuation. Silverberg finds, because of the District’s unique status, the answer is not very clear.

>> In sports, the Washington Nationals secured an 8-7 victory over the New York Mets on Saturday night, and Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan cut 24 players to set this season’s roster.
