Yesterday morning, we reported on an attempted robbery outside the CVS at 6514 Georgia Avenue NW in Brightwood which devolved into a shootout. Now, police say, one of the robbers in the group has died, while two others have been arrested.

According to Metropolitan Police Department, at least one armed subject approached an armored truck guard who was making rounds near the CVS shortly before 10:50 a.m. After the robber demanded money, the guard opened fire and rounds were exchanged. After fleeing the scene with at least three others, 27-year-old D.C. resident Kirk Anthony Dean, who was in the group that fled, went to Washington Hospital Center for treatment and eventually died as a result of his injuries.

It’s not clear whether Dean was the man who approached the guard and demanded the money, but police later located and arrested 26-year-old Darnell Crews and 21-year-old Anthony James, both of Washington. Both Crews and James were charged with Attempted Armored Car Robbery.

Police are still searching for additional suspects involved in the crime.
