Dish of the Week: Apple pie
Where: Whisked
It’s been apple season for a few weeks, and with the abundance of apples comes the obvious pie. A random apple pie fact? In 1999, apple pie was named the official pie of Vermont. The best part of the act? That a good faith effort be made to serve the pie with a cold glass of milk, a slice of cheddar cheese weighing a minimum of half an ounce, or a large scoop of vanilla ice cream. That’s some legislation I can get behind (though obviously the D.C. Council has bigger fish to fry).
One of my personal favorite apple pies come from local small-scale bakers Whisked. They currently sell their pies at the 14th and U farmers’ market, but it’s well worth stopping by to try out their pie. I love the tender, latticed crust and delicate spicing. You can order your pie along with other baked goods ahead of time online for pickup at the market or delivery.
Where’s your favorite place to get apple pie? (And yes, “Mom’s kitchen” is a totally acceptable answer.) We’re sure our frequent photo contributor Chris Chen has some ideas.
