According to WMATA, the individual who was struck by a train at the Clarendon Metro station last night — causing a huge rush hour disruption — is still alive.

Emergency crews extricated the 39-year-old white man from the tracks yesterday, and transported him to a nearby hospital, where he is currently in serious condition in an intensive care unit. According to Metro spokesperson Dan Stessel, the man, a resident of McLean, suffered head injuries and multiple broken bones, injuries which are considered “potentially life threatening.”

Last night, Metro said that there were indications that the person placed themselves in front of a train intentionally, but WMATA is still investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, things didn’t get any easier for Orange and Blue Line commuters this morning: both lines were held up during this morning’s rush due to a switch malfunction at the Rosslyn station. At least one train had to be offloaded at Farragut West, and residual delays along the line extended to New Carrollton and Largo Town Center.
