As we’ve recently reported, Capital Bikeshare is expanding, with new stations planned for the District and Arlington. (Alexandria is even getting in on the act!) And the locations of the new stations are to be picked by a select group: everyone.
Today, Capital Bikeshare launched a crowdsourcing map, where they’ve asked for input on where the system’s new stations should be placed. The basics:
You can suggest Capital Bikeshare stations anywhere. Current member jurisdictions in Capital Bikeshare are Arlington County and Washington DC. Alexandria and Montgomery County are both in the process of joining the Capital Bikeshare system. The influence of public input is greater in these areas, although you are welcome to suggest a station elsewhere. Montgomery County is particularly interested in input for the areas of Rockville, Shady Grove, Takoma Park, Silver Spring, Friendship Heights, and Bethesda.
From the look of the map, there’s clearly some interest in more Bikeshare stations in Arlington, Silver Spring and pretty much all over the District’s central core. There are even some bold proposals for stations in Tysons Corner and Gaithersburg.
According to Capital Bikeshare, the suggestions will be reviewed by staff and weighed alongside a number of factors, including how well they could interact with existing transit networks.
