>> IOTA hosts Bio Ritmo on Thursday. The group specializes in the Brazilian tropicalia sound that emerged in the ’70s. 8:30 p.m. $15.

>> Vocalist Jason Paul Curtis brings his classic style to Twins Jazz on Thursday with the Swing Lab Trio. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. $10 + $10 food/drink minimum.

>> Last year, we profiled saxophonist Davey Yarborough, one of the area’s most dedicated music educators. He often performs with his wife, vocalist Esther Williams, and the two will pair up to lead a group on Friday at Jazz Night in Southwest. 6 to 9 p.m. $5.

>> Kenny Rittenhouse is a long-time trumpeter for the U.S. Army Blues, one of the many great service bands in the area. He has also led a septet for many years, and the group will perform 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. sets on Friday and Saturday at Bohemian Caverns. $18.

>> HR-57 hosts regulars Antonio Parker (Friday) and John Williams (Saturday). 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. $15.

>> Annapolis-based saxophonist Jeff Antoniuk leads his Jazz Update on Friday and Saturday at Twins Jazz. The quartet will pay tribute to the great Thelonious Monk. 9 and 11 p.m. sets. $15 + $10 food/drink minimum.

>> Jeff Coffin is probably best known as the current saxophonist in the Dave Matthews Band, but his resume includes long stints with Bela Fleck & The Flecktones as well as several projects that he leads. His band, the Mu’tet, combines virtuosity with musicality to create a wholly satisfying listening experience. The group will begin a three-night stand of 8 and 10 p.m. sets at Blues Alley on Friday. $25 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.

>> The Freer Gallery presents an evening of Indian classical music on Saturday with sitarist Partha Chatterjee, Rajeev Taranath on sarod and tabla player Nitin Mitta. The 7:30 p.m. concert is free, but tickets are required and can be obtained through the Freer’s web site.

>> The Kennedy Center will celebrate the legacy of pioneering guitarist Django Reinhardt on Saturday with its Django Reinhardt Festival. Guitarist Dorado Schmitt will lead a lineup of all-stars from festivals past, and the group will feature Latin jazz harpist Edmar Castañeda. 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. sets. $45 + fees. The group will also participate in a jam session the following morning at 11:30 a.m. $5 + fees.

>> Jazz vocalist Sarah Riedel will perform at the Millennium Stage on Sunday as part of the 2011 Kids Euro Festival. Her program, Pippi in America, combines Swedish children’s songs with jazz. 6 p.m. Free.

>> Local trumpeter Joe Brotherton leads his new group, Cricket Fusion, through 8 and 10 p.m. sets at Twins Jazz on Sunday. $10 + $10 food/drink minimum.

>> Local bassist and bandleader Matt Grason leads his group, Soul Patch, on Sunday at the Bossa Bistro & Lounge. The band’s sound aims to blend the intimacy of small group jazz with a groove-oriented vibe. 10 p.m. Call 202-667-0088 for cover information.

>> Blue Monday Blues hosts the Reggie Wayne Morris Band. 6 to 9 p.m. $5.

>> In 2008, six young musicians from around Europe came together at a music conference in Latvia. Their collaboration was so profound that they decided to stick together, naming the group European Jazz Motion. The band will be at Twins Jazz on Tuesday for 8 and 10 p.m. sets. $10 + $10 food/drink minimum.

>> Kurt Elling is a singer’s singer. One of the few male jazz vocalists willing to step out of Sinatra’s shadow completely, his four-octave range allows him to fully express the character of a song, whether its out of the Great American Songbook or one of his originals. Elling will perform 8 and 10 p.m. sets at Blues Alley on Tuesday with help from the Klüvers Big Band, a Danish group formed in 1977. $35 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.
