During the District’s September 2010 primary, one in five voters cast ballots at one of the four early voting sites set up across the city. For the April 3, 2012 primary, the number of early voting sites will double.

After the success of early voting in 2010, the D.C. Council moved earlier this year to expand the program so that each ward had an early voting site. The D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics, though, wasn’t given the money necessary to actually comply with the law. However, BOEE officials and Councilmember Muriel Bowser (D-Ward 4) have confirmed that Mayor Vince Gray has identified the $1.1 million that will be needed to open all eight early voting sites for next year’s election.

For the primary, early voting is scheduled to take place from March 24-31; one site at the District’s Judiciary Square building will be open from March 19-31. The map of the proposed early voting sites is below.
