Photo by philliefan99.Remember last year, when Philadelphia fans “invaded” Nationals Park on opening day, leading many a Nationals fan to get their underwear all in a bunch about how — unlike saintly, unblemished fans of an organization which has practically begged people from outside Washington to buy tickets in the past — they all had to “deal with was rowdy Phils fans who wanted to taunt, misbehave, and otherwise abuse our fair city’s dignity” on that day?
Well, guess what, Nats fans? Soon enough, you’ll be able to complain vociferously about how raucous Yankees fans ruined your day at the ballpark, too! Dan Steinberg notes that, this season, the Nationals are offering a “Yankees Pack,” which invites fans to come experience the “First Yankees game at Nationals Park.”
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: dedicated Nationals fans can blame out-of-towners for the lack of Nats homerism at Nationals Park all they want. But the bottom line is that if they really want to eliminate the artificial home field advantage when teams like the Phillies and the Yankees (or the Red Sox or the Mets) come to town, they only have to look at the majority of their neighbors who don’t go to games and the team’s management, which is obviously only concerned with making sure the stadium is full with people, regardless of whether they’re sporting a cap featuring a curly W, a P, a B or an interlocking N and Y.
