Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez (U.S. Park Police)Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez, the 21-year-old who allegedly fired shots which hit the White House and was subsequently arrested at a Pennsylvania hotel yesterday, has told authorities that he “hates the president, he hates Washington, he hates society.”
Ortega-Hernandez is scheduled make his first court appearance today on federal charges of felony possession of a dangerous weapon in Pittsburgh.
Initially, it was unclear whether the bullets found on the White House grounds on Tuesday were actually intentionally aimed at the presidential mansion or just fallout from a violent confrontation which occurred on Friday night at the intersection of Constitution Avenue and 16th Street NW. But given his comments, it seems clear that Ortega-Hernandez likely had intentions of hitting the building with bullets from his rifle. Authorities are still working to conclusively connect the bullet which broke a White House window to the gun that Ortega-Hernandez allegedly dropped on the 2300 block of Constitution Avenue before fleeing on foot.
President Barack Obama, who has been on travel in Hawaii and Australia over the past few days, was not in the White House at the time of the shooting.
