There’s been plenty of talk recently on the Washington Redskins snapping up Peyton Manning in the near future.
But when asked whether he thought it was a good idea, Mayor Vince Gray told NewsChannel 8’s Bruce DePuyt that the Redskins should be looking for someone younger they can build a good team around, not the aging and injury-prone Manning. “I think the Redskins really need a young quarterback they can build with in the future. Even if [Manning] comes in an plays for a year or two, where do we go from there?” he told DePuyt this morning.
Gray isn’t alone in that thinking — some argue that the Redskins would be better off using their sixth draft pick to snag a younger quarterback. For others, though, the Redskins could just as well pick up a good wide receiver to complement Manning’s legendary throwing arm and focus on protecting him.
Before the Redskins can even ponder grabbing him, the Indianapolis Colts have another 22 days to decide what to do with Manning. Additionally, they have to hope the rumor of the day isn’t true — it’s being said that Manning is leaning towards the Houston Texans.
