A bill that would legalize same-sex marriage in Maryland was jointly approved by two House committees yesterday, writes the Post. The measure now goes to the full House for consideration, where it failed to pass last year.

Despite optimism by some that the votes are there this year for same-sex marriage to pass, WJLA reports that Gov. Martin O’Malley, who has been advocating strongly for the measure this year, admitted yesterday that he would still need the support of some Republicans for marriage equality to become law. Yesterday, one Republican joined 24 Democrats in supporting to move same-sex marriage forward, while one Democrat — Sam Arora, the same one who drew criticism last year for changing his vote at the last minute — did not vote.
