MONDAY
It’s unlikely that anything coming to a rock club in the next several months will sound anything like Brooklyn’s Prince Rama. Sisters Taraka and Nimai Larson take their Hare Krishna roots and weave in elements of noise, psychedelia and electronica for a unique sonic experience. They’ll be at Comet Ping Pong tonight with the Lovitt Records slow burning masters of dense instrumentation, Pygmy Lush. $10, 9:00 p.m.
Black Cat: Korallreven, Young Magic, Stout Cortez. $15, 8:00 p.m.
Birchmere: Boyz II Men. Sold Out, 7:30 p.m.
TUESDAY
Comet Ping Pong has another reason or three to truck out to the northwestern corner of Connecticut Avenue. Xray Eyeballs and Foul Swoops have perfected the high quality but lo-fidelity garage-punk that has become a staple at the venue while Brooklyn’s Bezoar veers on a darker, loopier and more experimental edge. $10, 9:00 p.m.
You could be a guitar player or an occasional listener of guitar-based music, but chances are, you have at some point counted Jimi Hendrix in your list of top five guitarists. (And if you haven’t…I’m curious to see your top five list in the comments.) At tonight’s sold out show at the Strathmore, many of his influences, contemporaries and disciples gather for Experience Hendrix. The list of performers include Billy Cox (of the Jimi Hendrix Experience), Buddy Guy, Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Dweezil Zappa, Brad Whitford (of Aerosmith), Chris Layton (of Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble), Mato Nanji (of Indigenous) and Eric Gates. Sold Out, 8:00 p.m.
Velvet Lounge: Typefighter, Cheers Elephant, The Trillions. $8 21+/$10 18+, 9:00 p.m.
WEDNESDAY
Two of indie rock’s buzz bands that actually seem to deserve their fifteen minutes of fame will be headed to the Black Cat tonight. White Rabbits take Spoon’s slinky grooves and lay down some more via a second drum kit to create a booze-soaked, percussion heavy jaunt. Tennis exists on the more laid-back end of the spectrum. Alaina Moore’s wistful vocals pair well with their breezy keyboard and drum based haze. Daughter opens. $18, 8:00 p.m.
Rock and Roll Hotel: Anti-Flag, The Flatliners, Have Nots. $15, 7:00 p.m.
U Street Music Hall: Fanfarlo, Young Man. 7:00 p.m.
THURSDAY
They’ve impressed David Byrne (they’re on his Luaka Bop label) and they’ve made bootys shake all over the planet. Now, Los Amigos Invisibles will be ending their world tour here in D.C. at the Black Cat. There will be more danceable beats beforehand courtesy of Lou Lou (Thievery Corporation) and DJ Afro. $22 in advance/$25 day of show, 8:00 p.m.
Velvet Lounge: Washerwoman, Dead Leaf Echo, Fan-Tan and Sansyou. $8 21+/$10 18+, 9:00 p.m.
FRIDAY
Did you know that March is Women’s History Month? Didn’t think so. (Confession: neither did I.) That’s okay, because nonprofit performance space Bloom Bars on 3222 11th St NW DID know and put together a two day eclectic lineup of female musicians called Bloomapalooza with proceeds from the event going toward women-focused charities. Proceeds from Friday’s show will benefit the Young Women’s Drumming Empowerment Project, who will be performing along with Chelsea McBee, Huda Asfour, SolRose, Nistha Raj and Tamika “Love” Jones. $15-20 donation, 8:00 p.m.
