After watching Herman Cain’s newest YouTube video, we think the former Republican presidential candidate might have some unresolved issues from his childhood. The new minute-long spot, ostensibly inveighing against the federal tax code, features an adorable rabbit being launched from a catapult and shot in midair by a marksman.
Yes, Cain would like you to associate the tax code and federal spending with the brutal death of a cute, defenseless bunny. The video is the product of Cain Connections, a political action committee borne out of the ashes of Cain’s failed presidential bid.
No, no. Let us describe it a bit more. It gets so much worse.
“This is small business,” says the narrator—a little girl in a sunflower-yellow dress. “This is small business under the current tax code,” she says as she deposits the fluffy, black-and-white bunny in what appears to be some kind of hay-filled pen.
Then an offscreen voice shouts “Pull!” and the rabbit is revealed to have been placed in the basket of a catapult and sent soaring across a desiccated ravine, screaming for its dear life. With deadly aim, the marksman plugs one in the flying furball (presumably a digital double at this point, we really hope), unleashing a cloud of blood.
It’s not Cain Connections’ first dalliance with animal cruelty. A video posted in February featured a goldfish being dumped out of its bowl and left to gasp and flop on the ground.
“Any questions?” the little, dead-eyed girl asks. And then we see Cain, presiding over the valley as the logo for his website, SickOfStimulus.com, appears on screen.
Oh, just one question: What the fuck?

Update, 4:50 p.m.: It appears the video is working again. Still horrible.
