The recent news that Georgetown’s official mascot Jack the bulldog had injured himself and might require surgery bummed plenty of people out. Well, good news is on its way—and it’s adorable.
Georgetown has announced that the parents of two current students have donated a new bulldog to eventually replace Jack, who has been the university’s mascot since 2003 and will undergo surgery on his ACL in April. The new puppy, J.J. (short for Jack, Jr.), while arrive on campus in two weeks and will slowly be trained to take over for Jack, who is nine years old.
But Jack won’t simply be cast aside by his younger, much cuter replacement—he’ll help prepare him for the rigors of college life:
“Jack’s presence will provide important support to J.J., since the older dog is already comfortable with his life as a mascot at Georgetown,” [Rev. Christopher] Steck, says. “J.J. will be looking for signals from Jack, and Jack’s enthusiasm in different environments will encourage J.J.’s own.”
J.J. is slowly making the trip from California to D.C.; you can track his progress here. He’s expected to arrive on April 13, when he will be welcomed by the university.
We dare you not to squee:
