Only a few weeks after the 2011-2012 D.C. winter was declared the warmest on record, NBC4 is reporting that this March has similarly taken top honors:
Storm4 Meteorologist Tom Kierein says that the average temperature for the month of March in 2012 (combining highs and lows) at Reagan National Airport was 56.8 degrees. The previous record of 56.2 degrees for the month of March was set in 1945.
As a result of the higher temperatures, we had blossoms coming out 2-3 weeks early, and pollen counts jumped to higher levels earlier than average by 2 weeks.
We’ve already pointed out some of the unintended consequences of such unseasonably warm weather, and we’re somewhat terrified of what a record-setting July and August could look like. Thankfully, these first two days of April are a little more the norm, with spring-like temperatures in the 60s and enough wind to have made the weekend’s Blossom Kite Festival a success.
