On NewsTalk with Bruce DePuyt this morning Mayor Vince Gray gave a blanket endorsement to all the incumbents running for re-election to the D.C. Council, though he did so with little apparent energy or enthusiasm.

Responding to a question about the hotly contested At-Large race, Gray threw his weight behind Councilmember Vincent Orange (D-At Large). “He really worked very effectively with me,” said Gray, speaking of the time that he shared with Orange in the city’s legislature. (Orange represented Ward 5 until 2006.) “He’s done things that would lead people to bring him back,” said Gray.

Orange is running against Sekou Biddle, Peter Shapiro and E. Gail Anderson Holness. In January 2011, Biddle received a rousing endorsement from Gray in his quest to win the April 26 Special Election in which Orange eventually emerged victorious. This time around, Biddle has enjoyed the backing of councilmembers David Catania (I-At Large) and Tommy Wells (D-Ward 6), while Orange recently received a nod of support from Councilmember Jim Graham (D-Ward 1).

Gray also backed Councilmember Yvette Alexander (D-Ward 7) in her re-election bid, and more broadly said that he thought the incumbents—which include Ward 2 Councilmember Jack Evans and Ward 4 Councilmember Muriel Bowser—have done a “good job” and should be returned to the legislature.
