Ever since he left office in early 2007, former Mayor Anthony Williams has been quietly living a normal D.C. life. He bought a condo just off of H Street NE and took a number of jobs as a consultant or advisor. (He also stopped a crime as it happened!) But now he’s slowly making his way back into D.C. politics and policy.
The Post reports today that Williams has been tapped to lead the Federal City Council, a group of well-heeled and well-connected individuals that help shape important D.C. policies. The announcement comes only weeks after Williams was chosen to lead Mayor Vince Gray’s Tax Revision Commission, which will scour the city’s tax code for what’s working and what’s not.
Williams was the city’s CFO before being drafted to run for mayor in 1998. While he was accused of being overly aloof and seemingly oblivious to the city’s neediest residents during his two terms in office, his tenure has more recently been recognized for laying the groundwork for the District’s recent revitalization.
