On Monday, Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli announced the commonwealth was filing a consumer protection lawsuit against Tareq Salahi, the eccentric entrepreneur and one-time White House gatecrasher.
Salahi, the lawsuit alleges, defrauded customers who bought tour packages sold by his business VirginiaWineTours.com, which purportedly offered oenophiles visits to Northern Virginia vineyards, NBC4 reported. But after several complaints that Salahi did not actually deliver the promised tours nor offer refunds, Cuccinelli filed suit under Virginia’s Consumer Protection Act.
Of course, the Cooch isn’t just his state’s top law-enforcement official any more, he’s also running for the Republican Party’s nomination in the 2013 gubernatorial election. So Salahi, Politico reports, apparently filed his response to the lawsuit in the most fameballer way possible:
Virginia Republicans, meet you newest candidate to succeed Gov. Bob McDonnell: Tareq Salahi! In a statement to Politico, Salahi said:
As a Virginia native for the last 42 years, I am troubled to see how our current political figure heads continue to waste tax payer dollars during these difficult economic times! I’m a big believer in limited government, keeping taxes, regulation and litigation low.
And unlike some of Salahi’s previous claims like, say, being an invited guest to a White House state dinner, this campaign announcement isn’t bunkum. TMZ got its mitts on Salahi’s declaration of candidacy, which he signed yesterday, one day after Cuccinelli filed his suit. Enjoy:
