The Nationals announced Friday afternoon that third baseman Ryan Zimmerman, who is suffering from a nagging shoulder injury, will go on the 15-day disabled list tomorrow. In his place, the team announced it is calling up its top prospect, Bryce Harper, who will make his long-awaited major league debut tomorrow in Los Angeles.

Harper, who’s something of a loudmouth in the batting cage, we learned in March, has been playing this season with the Triple-A Syracuse Nationals. In 20 games, he’s hit for a .250 batting average with one home run and three runs batted in.

But Harper has been the Nats’ next great hope since they drafted him with the first pick overall in the 2010 Major League Baseball draft. Thing is, Harper’s an impetuous young jerk. In his minor league career, he has blown mocking kisses to pitchers of whom he’s belted home runs, thrown tantrums after striking out and said that he intends to “run your ass over” when rounding the bases.

Yeah, he’s a jerk. (And remember, it was Morrissey, not me, who said it first.) No matter, per Harper’s braggadocio, the Dodgers best steel themselves to have their asses run over should Harper be get some playing time this weekend.
