More information has been released about the driver who smashed a stolen SUV into a downtown building Friday night.

According to News-Post, a preliminary report of the incident stated that 32-year-old Charles Ball was igniting a lighter after he crashed the vehicle.

Oliver Adams, a special police officer for the building, also told the news organization that Ball, seemingly disoriented, informed the officer that “someone was after him and his family.”

Although authorities have not yet publicly concluded Ball’s motive, the investigation has led news organizations to uncover more information about the New Market, Md. man:

A woman who owns the Jeep and shares the same address with Ball in the 10200 block of Ladoga Place had filed a domestic violence order against him in the hours before the crash, according to Maryland online court records. An officer with the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office said the woman’s orange 2010 Jeep was reported stolen the same day.

Ball is listed on the Maryland Sex Offender Registry because of a 2008 conviction for third-degree sex offense.
