Last week’s derecho storm knocked over trees and power lines, leaving millions of residents in the region without power. And while the numbers and the stories of homes left powerless for days certainly help us appreciate how violent a storm it was, the two following images taken by NASA’s Earth Observatory—one before the storm, one after—give a much better sense of how extensive the power outages were.
