That’s D.C. United coach Ben Olsen stunting in the background of this team photo following a Washington Kastles charity event last night at Kastles Stadium in Southwest Waterfront. Olsen’s team, the “Stars,” beat the opposing “Stripes” in a 41-39 match.
Olsen’s teammates included political analyst Mark Plotkin, Councilmember Yvette Alexander (D-Ward 7), former U.S. Sen. John Breaux (D-La.), National Economic Council director Gene Sperling, Rep. Steve LaTourette (R-Ohio) and a few actual professional tennis players from the Kastles roster.
Olsen, paired with LaTourette, won his set with a winner that sailed past former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers and current Deputy Treasury Secretary Neal Wolin.
But the coach’s real antics came during the trophy presentation. Rather than stand shoulder-to-shoulder with his teammates, Olsen took a few steps back and struck a pose.
Clearly, this needs a caption. Here are a few to get it started:
“United might be No. 2 in soccer, but they’re No. 1 in charity tennis.”
“After a City Paper article recommended he run for mayor, Olsen reacted with gleeful surprise when Alexander promised him her endorsement.”
“Little known fact: John Breax doesn’t actually have a mouth behind that trophy.”
“The newest division of Olsen’s Army shall be called Plotkin Patrol.”
“Mythical being Ben Olsen radiates sunshine out of his smile, reminding everyone that team tennis is actually a thing that happens.”
“Pablo! Over here!”
