Hot heat help produce terrible thunderstorms. At least that’s what we’re being told to expect this evening, with the National Weather Service putting the region under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 9 p.m. If the storms hit, we can expect hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter, wind gusts up to 70 mph and dangerous lightning.

In preparation for the possible storms, the FAA has instituted a ground stop at all local airports, which means that departures and taxiing could be delayed between 46 and 60 minutes—if not longer.
