Remember a few months ago when we got into a little dust-up with a local restaurateur over a new Chick-fil-A food truck in D.C.? Well, the controversy over the purveyor of fried chicken (and traditional family values) is back.

Amid a growing national debate over the chain’s support for organizations that have fought same-sex marriage, the D.C.-based Human Rights Campaign protested the Chick-fil-A food truck in downtown D.C. yesterday. During the protest, reports WUSA9, demonstrators didn’t try to tell people whether or not to eat there, but rather inform them that their money would be supporting a restaurant with controversial political affiliations:

“We’re down here today to educate consumers about Chick-fil-A’s anti-LGB (lesbian, gay, bisexual) giving,” Dan Rafter, the Online Campaigns Manager of the HRC said at the protest. “Dan Cathy is the President of Chick-fil-A and recently he’s very proudly embraced the company’s anti-LGB donations. Chick-fil-A gives to companies that actively demonize LGB people and are against marriage equality for LGB people. So we’re out here to educate these consumers, raise the profile of the issue and just make sure they know exactly where their money is going.”

After the chain’s CEO recently defended giving to anti-marriage equality groups, Boston Mayor Tom Menino went as far as to say that he would seek to have Chick-fil-A’s plans for a location in city the rejected.
