Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps is not the only athlete from the region representing the U.S. in the London Olympics.

Terrence Jennings (tae kwon do), Claire Laubach (field hockey), Matt McLean (swimming), Karen O’Connor (equestrian) and Giuseppe Lanzone (rowing) are just some of the locals in Team USA competing in London. Non-Team USA Olympians who do live in the D.C. area include Claire Hallissey (marathon), Moise Joseph (track) and Andy Najar (soccer).

The State of NoVa and Northern Virginia Magazine highlights several athletes who have connections to the area.

O’Connor, 59, from The Plains, Va., is the oldest U.S. Olympian. According to The Post, she and her husband Olympic gold medalist David, “share two Olympic medals and have been instrumental parts of the U.S. team since the late 1980s.”

Twenty-nine-year-old Lanzone from Annandale, Va. is also an Olympic veteran. He participated in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, placing ninth in the men’s coxless four competition. He was one of the athletes who recently donned Ralph Lauren’s U.S. Olympic uniforms in a photo shoot. The uniforms sparked controversy for being made in China.
