This is a story many of us dread while we walk home from a bar late at night.

A man was attacked while walking home from a birthday party at a pub on Pennsylvania Avenue SE, according to WJLA/AP. He was found unconscious on the front porch of a house near Eastern Market around 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

The victim, 29-year-old Thomas Maslin, stumbled from door to door seeking help, but many people in the area were away, reports The Post.

At the hospital, doctors told police that he was struck on the head with an object. A friend told WJLA/AP that Maslin, an energy analyst, husband and father of a young child, is currently in a coma. WTOP says that he underwent brain surgery.

Homicide detectives are currently investigating the case.

Neighborhood group “Moms on the Hill” is helping raise money and organizing babysitting services for the family, reports WJLA/AP.
