Via FacebookThe family and friends of Thomas C. Maslin, a D.C. man who was savagely beaten in August are holding a fundraiser on his behalf tonight to help cover the cost of his extensive medical bills. Maslin, 29, was attacked August 18 near Eastern Market and left bloodied and bruised while walking home along North Carolina SE after leaving Tune Inn, the popular Capitol Hill watering hole.
Since the attack, Maslin has undergone several surgeries and continues to face a long convalescence, including physical rehabilitation and a need for caregivers. D.C. Police charged two suspects in October of carrying out the attack, while Maslin’s wife, Abigail, has said that he still cannot walk or feed himself, and struggles with simple things like remembering her name. The Maslins also have a two-year-old son.
In a blog post last week, Abigail Maslin wrote that while her husband is improving, he is still far from recovering.
Some conversations go better than others. His language improves every day, but he still has far to go. I struggle in determining how often to correct him when he’s speaking gibberish. Often he will talk excitedly for minutes on end and none of what he has said contains real words.
The fundraiser begins tonight at 5 p.m. at Tune Inn, where Maslin stopped off for a drink after a Nationals Game on the night he was attacked. Money collected will be donated to a trust set up in the Maslins’ names by the CHAMPS Foundation, a nonprofit established by the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce.
