Though Floyd Lee Corkins II is accused of walking into the D.C. office of the Family Research Council last week and opening fire, he may have had a second conservative organization in mind when he planned his rampage.
WJLA reports that along with rounds of ammunition and 15 Chick-fil-A sandwiches, Corkins carried the address of the Traditional Values Coalition on him when he allegedly shot a security guard at the FRC office in Gallery Place. The coalition’s offices are located on Capitol Hill, and the group—which like the FRC recently backed Chick-fil-A’s donations to groups opposing same-sex marriage—has since added security to protect against any future incidents.
Like the FRC, the Southern Poverty Law Center has said that TVC is a “hate group.” Last week FRC President Tony Perkins stridently fought back on such claims, and said that the SPLC’s designation had given Corkins a license to plan and execute his shooting.
Corkins has been charged with illegally carrying a weapon across state lines and assault with intent to kill. He may also face federal charges of domestic terrorism.
