Tragic news coming out of Virginia: the modern-day Romeo and Juliet couple of Michaele and Tareq Salahi are formally divorced, reports WTOP. After having filed for divorce in September, a judge formally signed the paperwork making it official on Monday.

Maybe it’s for the best, though. Both seem to have landed on their feet since they parted ways last year. While the best they could say about being married was that they crashed a White House State Dinner and appeared on The Real Housewives of D.C., their post-separation lives have been rich indeed. Michaele ran off with the lead guitarist of Journey (after pretending to have been kidnapped, no less), and Tareq launched his Virginia gubernatorial campaign.

And even though he might have reason to still be angry at Michaele—her arena rocker hubby allegedly sent him pictures of his you-know-what—in a statement to E! Online he sounded positively zen about the whole ordeal:

“I am thrilled with the resolution of this case and to close this chapter in my life and now move forward in a positive manner,” Tareq, who once upon a time called his estranged wife a “groupie slut” after she left him for Schon, said in a statement released to E! News.

“I always maintained that my claims were valid and eventually they would be recognized as such. I wish Michaele the best.”

As do we. Now let us never talk about the Salahis again. I just hurts too much to think that true love can fail.
