The clever attempts to smuggle hard drugs through Dulles International Airport were foiled again last weekend when customs officers detained two couriers from Guatemala who were carrying jars of cream and honey lined with cocaine.
NBC4 reports that the Custom and Border Patrol found the blow on Saturday while conducting a routine search of the couriers. The search revealed seven plastic, double-walled jars. In between the walls was a lot of cocaine:
Inside the walls was a white powdery substance which the CBP said tested positive for cocaine. Altogether, the containers contained nearly 5.75 kilograms—or 12.6 pounds—of cocaine.
The couriers were barred from re-entering the United States for at least five years, according to NBC4.
Saturday’s incident was hardly the first time officials at Dulles encountered a traveler attempting to conceal a large amount of drugs in a novel manner. In March, a woman arriving from Nigeria was arrested on smuggling charges after customs officers found 180 heroin pellets lodged in her stomach.
