For obvious reasons, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is rarely going to find himself in political harmony with the Obama Administration. But the 2008 rivals are in concordance on a very important issue.

Like the Republican Party’s 2008 presidential nominee, the White House believes that the Washington Nationals’ constant humiliation of President Theodore Roosevelt has gone on long enough. Speaking with reporters aboard Air Force One today, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said President Obama thinks it’s time to let Teddy win the Nationals’ Presidents’ Race.

“This is an outrage,” Carney said. “I agree with Senator McCain, I’m comfortable saying my boss agrees with Senator McCain.”

McCain told ESPN on Tuesday that he might even launch a formal Senate investigation into why the Nationals subject Roosevelt, his political idol and undisputedly the best sportsman ever to serve as U.S. president, to nightly degradation.

A spokesperson for the Nationals said the team did not yet have a response to the White House, but that it would “work on it.”
