Photo by Mr. T in DCThe Nats are in the playoffs, which means that lucky ticket-holders looking to make a good buck can resell their tickets at a nice profit. But on WTOP today, D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier laid down the law, saying that scalping outside of the stadium will not be tolerated, and some 60 police officers will be hand for games to make sure that no tickets are resold.
D.C.’s scalping laws are quite specific and quite harsh: no tickets can be sold, no matter the price, anywhere on public land. Even if you sell at face value while on a sidewalk or just outside the stadium you’d be in violation, and could face jail time (up to 90 days) or fines (up to $300).
Of course, that says nothing of sales in the privacy of your home or on the Internet. (Craigslist has a healthy offering of playoff tickets available.) Heck, even if you stepped into the Five Guys near Nats Park in front of Nats Park for a quick exchange with a scalper the police couldn’t do anything about it.
But if you’re out in public, Lanier is coming to get you.
