Oscar De La Hoya, a 10-time world champion, recently recorded a robocall promoting Question 7 on the Maryland ballot, which would permit the state’s five existing casinos to install table games and approve a casino in Prince George’s. De La Hoya’s call also does the bidding of MGM Resorts, the company that is aiming to land a deal to build a sprawling resort at National Harbor.
If MGM comes to Prince George’s, the county will get a similar “destination resort” that will create “thousands of jobs for hard-working people,” De La Hoya says.
De La Hoya’s robocall is sponsored by Maryland Jobs & Schools, a pro-gambling group that has received $18 million from MGM Resorts. In the call, De La Hoya brags of having “slugged it out” at Vegas resorts owned by MGM.
Earlier this month, another Vegas mainstay, the magician David Copperfield, recorded a call promoting passage of Question 7 and MGM’s construction plans.
