A restaurant in the heart of Historic Anacostia that served as the neighborhood’s only sit-down eatery and full-service bar before closing last year has taken on a new tenant.

At a meeting yesterday of the Historic Anacostia Block Association (HABA), landlord Stan Voudrie announced that he had signed on a new tenant for the space once occupied by the Uniontown Bar and Grill at Martin Luther King Avenue and W Street SE. And while he opted not to name them—see the tweets below—he did hint that the style of food would be similar to that which Uniontown had been serving. But as a teaser, all Voudrie would say is that its a restaurant with other D.C. locations.

Last September Voudrie mentioned that he had been working with five potential tenants, though Busboys and Poets, which had been rumored to be looking at the space for a fifth D.C. location, was not one of them. Charles Wilson, HABA’s co-founder and president, confirmed that a new tenant had been selected, but that the identity likely wouldn’t be revealed until February and the new restaurant would open at some point in the spring.

Uniontown Bar and Grill opened to much fanfare in early 2011, only to close last year after its owner was charged with trafficking cocaine and the restaurant was evicted for owing $18,000 in back rent.
