>> Jane Monheit‘s classic style has led her to become one of the most successful jazz vocalists of the 2000s. The elegant chanteuse will perform a 7:30 p.m. show tonight at The Hamilton. $25-$40.50.

>> Virtuoso clarinetist Joseph Howell continues his month-long run of Wednesday nights at Twins Jazz this evening. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. $10 + $10 food/drink minimum.

>> In honor of Black History Month, the Bossa Bistro & Lounge will present Echoes of an Era on Thursday. The evening will be a musical tribute to Gil Scott-Heron, Sun Ra, Funkadelic and more. 10 p.m. $5.

>> Songwriter/guitarist Corey Harris not only skillfully blends various forms of roots music, but also was a winner of the MacArthur “genius” grant in 2007. Harris will begin a three-night stand of 8 and 10 p.m. sets at Blues Alley on Thursday. Tickets are $25 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.

>> Nearly six years have passed since D.C.’s jazz community lost its long time matriarch, Ronnie Wells. Vocalist Janine Gilbert-Carter pays tribute to Wells on Friday at Jazz Night in Southwest. 6 to 9 p.m. $5.

>> The Monterey Jazz Festival is among the country’s finest and most prestigious jazz events. The festival has assembled a group of all-stars to go on tour, and the ensemble will be at the Kennedy Center on Friday. The band includes vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater, bassist Christian McBride, pianist Benny Green, drummer Lewis Nash, saxophonist Chris Potter and trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire. 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. sets. $38. Bridgewater will also be giving a free masterclass the following morning at 11 a.m. $12.

>> The District’s jazz scene got a huge boost several years ago when bassist Tarus Mateen moved to the area. Jason Moran, Common, Betty Carter, The Roots and Christina Aguilera are just a few of the names that have tapped Mateen’s immense talents. He will be setting up shop at Bohemian Caverns to lead his own band on Friday and Saturday. 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. sets. $15 in advance/$20 at the door.

>> Jessica Boykin-Settles is one of the city’s finest vocalists and is preparing new material for a forthcoming album. A graduate-turned-faculty member at Howard University, Boykin-Settles will be leading a group of D.C.’s finest on Friday and Saturday at Twins Jazz. 9 and 11 p.m. sets. $15 + $10 food/drink minimum.

>> The Kronos Quartet has been in residence at the University of Maryland since 2007, and the groundbreaking string ensemble has visited the jazz world on several occasions, having tackled music by Bill Evans and Thelonious Monk. On Friday and Saturday, Kronos will join forces with experimental artist Laurie Anderson for a performance of Scenes From My New Novel, a piece commissioned by the university’s Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center. The 8 p.m. concerts will take place in the center’s Kay Theatre. $10-$50.

>> Kris Bowers won the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition in 2011. At just 22-years old, he is not only taking the jazz world by storm, but is also showing his versatility through collaborations with the likes of Jay-Z and Kanye. Bowers will be at the Kennedy Center‘s KC Jazz Club on Saturday for 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. sets. $16.

>> Blue Monday Blues hosts Dr. S.O. Feelgood and his band. 6 to 9 p.m. $5.

>> Joe Alterman‘s piano style recalls the classic swing of the 1950s, while his vocal abilities have led to comparisons with a young Harry Connick, Jr. This up-and-comer will be performing on Monday at Blues Alley. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. $20 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.
