Floyd Lee Corkins III, who shot and injured a security guard in the lobby of the Family Research Council’s D.C. office last August, today pleaded guilty to three charges, reports WJLA. Corkins pleaded to one federal count of crossing state lines with guns and ammunition and two D.C. charges, intent to kill while armed and committing an act of terrorism with the intent to kill.
The notable charge is that related to terrorism, which the FBI started looking into shortly after the shooting. As he walked into the building’s lobby, Corkins told the security guard he eventually shot “It’s not about you, it’s about the policy,” referring to the organization’s longstanding opposition to gay rights and same-sex marriage. He was also carrying a bag full of Chick-fil-A sandwiches; the fast food restaurant has donated money to the FRC and other such organizations. At the time of the shooting Corkins had been volunteering at a center for gay, lesbian and transgender people.
Corkins faces up to 70 years in prison for the charges.
