An SUV drove off of the Memorial Bridge and into the Potomac River at 10 p.m. Sunday night. According to U.S. Park Police, the driver was heading east along the bridge towards the Lincoln Memorial when he careened over the curb, into a barrier and off the bridge. The driver of the SUV was injured and taken to a local hospital; no explanation for the incident has yet been given. The bridge reopened to traffic at 2:30 a.m.
