The Examiner has done and done it again! Much as it has done in the past—we’ve catalogued examples here—the daily tabloid did a magnificent job today using front page headlines and pictures that not only don’t match, but convey an oddly political message in the process.
Today’s it’s yet another in the Examiner’s long-running series on D.C.’s supposed “war on cars” (read a good rebuttal here) juxtaposed against an image of Pope Benedict XVI’s final papal audience. The headline reads “D.C. makes driving cars hell on wheels”; the image shows Benedict with one half-raised hand, as if he’s frustrated that the L Street bike lane forced the Popemobile to get stuck in traffic. Yes, the image is supposed to be attached to an actual article about the Pope, but you’d be hard-pressed to know that from far away.
The point is clear: all you multi-modal environment-loving types better watch out, because the Heavenly Father will rain down fire and brimstone on you because on-street parking is a little more expensive these days.
