One day, they will write about a coming moment as one of the pivotal turning points in D.C.’s history. Next Thursday, Walgreens will open its newest store at 7th and H streets NW.

Except, this isn’t any old dowdy CVS competitor. This Walgreens is a “flagship” and one of the company’s “Well Experience” stores. “This amazing three-story store is unlike anything seen in the city and features an extensive collection of innovative products and services,” a company press release reads.

And just what are these products and services that we’ve never seen before (in a Walgreens)?

  • “A nail bar offering professional manicures”
  • “Expert eyebrow shaping and grooming services”
  • “Self-serve frozen yogurt dispensers and toppings for unlimited options”
  • “A juice and smoothie bar”
  • “An Upmarket Café offering a barista preparing fresh brewed premium coffee and espressos”
  • “Walgreens’ new, virtually-enhanced pharmacy”

So, can one still get a prescription filled with so much stuff going on around them? We inquired what turns a pharmacy from a slow-moving line into a “virtually-enhanced” experience. Victoria Crawford, a Walgreens spokeswoman, writes in an email that the store will feature an “iPad-equipped health guide” who will “help pharmacy customers navigate a wide range of health and wellness products.” IPads, people!

Apparently, the soon-to-open store is so amazing, the English language lacks the words to describe it. “It is hard to describe the uniqueness of the space,” the press release continues.

In fact, the only points of comparison Walgreens is offering for this store are two of its similarly fancy stores in Chicago, one of which even features a sushi bar. “The one downtown here is pretty tricked out,” Chicagoist editor Chuck Sudo writes, “although I’d never eat sushi from there.”
