Most geographic identifications in D.C.-based stories are pointless. “Near the White House” or “near the U.S. Capitol” are often used for effect, even when the event in question happened nowhere near either one and wouldn’t have much of a link even if it had. Today, though, we can safely use a geographic identifier (or a few) and make a link to the story at hand!

According to WJLA, a bank down the street from the FBI building was robbed. The robbery took place at a Capitol One bank at 701 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, a mere block from the FBI’s Brutalist HQ. Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department, Metro Transit Police and the FBI responded. NBC4 has a few more details:

Sources tell News4 that a man walked into the Capital One Bank branch at 701 Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest and demanded cash. After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, the man fled the scene on foot. Authorities believe the man made his escape via the nearby Archives-Navy Memorial Metro station.

It’s probably worth noting that this bank is two blocks away from MPD HQ, and it’s also half-way between the White House and U.S. Capitol. So, in a sense, our over-the-top headline is just perfect.
