>> Tarus Mateen has been a most welcome addition to the local scene since he made the decision to call D.C. home. A world class bassist who performs with a number of renowned artists, he will lead his own group on Thursday in the club space above Marrakech Restaurant (2147 P St. NW). The band will include saxophonist Brian Settles, pianist Noble Jolley, drummer Sean Rickman and other special guests. 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $10.

>> Pianist Greg Lamont leads a group on Friday at Jazz Night in Southwest. 6 to 9 p.m. $5.

>> Keyboardist Marcus Johnson leads his group on Friday at the Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club. 8 p.m. Tickets $25 plus $15 food/drink minimum.

>> HR-57 hosts regulars Antonio Parker (Friday) and Alfredo Mojico (Saturday). 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. $15.

>> Curtis Lundy is a bassist’s bassist. He’s spent years working with legendary vocalist Betty Carter and is the brother of noted singer Carmen Lundy. He has also led his own bands for the past 25 years and will do so this Friday and Saturday at Bohemian Caverns. 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. sets. Tickets $20 in advance/$25 at the door.

>> Pianist Lafayette Gilchrist always puts the stamp of his native Baltimore on his music. Combining the improvisational elements of jazz with beat-driven compositions, his group creates a hybrid form that is both respectful of tradition and true to contemporary sounds. The trio will be at Twins Jazz on Friday and Saturday for 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Tickets $15 plus $10 food/drink minimum.

>> Lena Seikaly is among the area’s most talented vocalists, bringing her operatic training to original and standard jazz repertoire. She will be performing 8 and 10 p.m. sets at Blues Alley on Friday to celebrate the release of her new album, Looking Back. Tickets $22 plus minimum/surcharge.

>> The Ulah Bistro is testing the waters for hosting live jazz on weekends. They will be having trial runs for the next two Fridays, featuring groups led by pianist Wayne Wilentz and trumpeter DeAndrey Howard for each respective week. If a crowd shows up, the venue will likely start hosting regular performances. 11 p.m. No cover.

>> Lori Williams sings with a number of groups in town and is also a respected music educator, serving as Director of Choirs at Woodrow Wilson Senior High School. She will be performing on Saturday at Blues Alley. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Tickets $25 plus minimum/surcharge.

>> Count Basie’s orchestra was among the most heralded during the big band era. Local bandleader James Bazen has assembled a big band to pay tribute to that great music on Saturday at the Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club. 8 p.m. Tickets $25 plus $15 food/drink minimum.

>> Two masters of Indian classical music will be performing on Sunday at the USM Shady Grove Conference Center, 9630 Gudelsky Drive, Rockville, MD. The recital features Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt on Indian slide guitar with Pandit Subhen Chatterjee on tabla. 6 p.m. Tickets $15-$50.

>> Drummer Mike Reed is a force in his native Chicago, both as a musician and concert producer. He presents over 150 shows per year and was the driving force behind the Pitchfork and Umbrella music festivals. Reed will lead his band, People, Places & Things on Sunday at Bohemian Caverns. 7 and 9 p.m. sets. Tickets $15 online/$20 at the door.

>> Sharon Clark performs regularly in and around D.C., and has lately taken to rearranging classic pop songs from the ’70s and ’80s and putting them into a jazz context. Clark will lead a group on Sunday at Blues Alley. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Tickets $25 plus minimum/surcharge.

>> Blue Monday Blues hosts saxophonist Jacques Johnson. 6 to 9 p.m. $5.

>> On Tuesday, trumpeter Donvonte McCoy concludes his run as this month’s Artist-in-Residence at Bohemian Caverns. 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. sets. Tickets $10 in advance/$15 at the door.

>> Pianist Allyn Johnson has long been a favorite here at DCist, mainly through his work with The Young Lions. He will be at Blues Alley on Tuesday, leading his new band, Sonic Sanctuary. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Tickets $18 plus minimum/surcharge.
