Photo by Paulo Ordoveza. In a crushing blow to those who enjoy riding trains and finding love in sweaty places, the Metro Hot Cars dating Web site was a fake. Without an organized system for Metro dating, one man apparently got creative while riding the Red Line.
A man named Jim wrote in to Unsuck DC Metro to relay the tale of a man trying to pick up a Metro train operator using an emergency intercom:
At one of the next stops, a guy gets on, presses the emergency intercom button at the back of the car and starts chatting up the train driver.
“Hey, baby, this is Cooper. Remember Cooper? Yeah, so, how are you?”
He obviously knew her from somewhere and was “interested,” but she didn’t remember him as much as he thought she would.
The driver was clearly flabbergasted and said “What, huh? Who is this? Can I help you?”
Clearly, that’s not an approved use of an emergency intercom. But perhaps the man considered it to be an urgent love matter.
As Jim told Unsuck DC Metro, the driver told the man to “have a nice day” and the interaction ended.
The question is, what will single Metro riders try next? Pushing an attractive person on to the tracks then saving them so they’ll seem heroic and have an interesting “How did you meet?” story? (Please don’t do that.)
