Authorities released the identities of the victim and suspects in a fatal shooting early Tuesday morning in Adams Morgan.

Solomon James Okoroh, a cab driver, was shot about 3:15 a.m. on the 2400 block of Ontario Road NW. He was later pronounced dead at an area hospital. Okoroh, who lived in Lanham, Md., was 57.

Metropolitan Police Department officers patrolling that section of Adams Morgan responded when they saw Okoroh’s cab drive by and heard a gunshot. The officers then observed the taxi crash and two suspects flee from the vehicle, according to an MPD press release. One of the suspects pulled out a handgun and shot at the officers, who returned fire. No officers were injured during the incident.

The first suspect attempted to flee by forcing his way into a nearby residence, where he was then arrested. Ercell Overton, 32, of Northwest D.C., is charged with murder, felony assault on a police officer, and burglary.

The second suspect, Joshua King, 24, of Hyattsville, was apprehended nearby without incident. He is charged with an unrelated probation violation.
