Last week, DCist compiled some of the best weekend getaways from the Washington area. The trips to many of those destinations, not surprisingly, involve a bit of travel through Maryland.

In many cases, taking a reasonably long drive through Maryland involves paying some tolls. And those fees are about to go up. Effective Monday, most toll roads throughout the state will have their fares increased.

Cash tolls on Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge, Fort McHenry Tunnel, and Harbor Tunnel will go from $3 to $4. The Bay Bridge and Nice Bridge, which carries U.S. Route 301 over the Potomac River in Southern Maryland, will go from $4 to $6 per passenger vehicle. And on Interstate 95, drivers headed into Delaware will begin paying $8 per car, up from $6.

But if you want to save a few bucks, get E-Z Pass. As The Washington Post notes, the tolls for tag holders are also increasing, but are still far less than their cash counterparts:

For drivers using E-ZPass transponders, the tolls are also going up. The E-ZPass rate for driving across the Bay Bridge and the Nice Bridge will now be $2.10, while it will go up to $1.40 for the Key Bridge and the two Baltimore tunnels. The E-ZPass rate will increase to $2.80 for E-ZPass commuters on the northern stretch of I-95 and the Hatem Bridge.

Seriously, it’s 2013 and you don’t have E-Z Pass yet? Tolls are unchanged on the Intercounty Connecter, the all-E-Z Pass highway that links Gaithersburg in Montgomery County and Beltsville in Prince George’s County.
