D.C. is one of the best places in the country for wine drinkers, according to a group that really wants you to have access to wine.

In its first report card, the American Wine Consumer Coalition graded each state and the District of Columbia on consumer access to vino. D.C. was awarded an A+ based on four factors: “access to products,” “government control,” “blue laws” and “restaurant wine.”

Access to products? D.C. consumers “enjoy outstanding access to wine” through shops and shipments from out of the city, says the AWCC. Government control and blue laws? Not here! Restaurant wine? D.C. residents can bring their own in some cases, though you may have to pay a corkage fee. (Eater helpfully listed BYOW places that do not charge one.)

Neighboring Virginia also received an A+, while Maryland was handed a D+. The ability to buy wine in a grocery store, which one is unable to do in Maryland, is extremely important to the AWCC, as it should be to every wine-drinking America.
